Low power radio telemetry and GSM telemetry combine

11 June 2006

Powelectrics have used their skills an innovative products to provide a solution that combines low power radio telemetry and gsm telemetry for monitoring the performance of electricity transformers.

These large transformers are on big sites and cabling between each of them would be problematic. The ever increasing demands on the electricity supply mean that monitoring the performance of the transmformers is quickly becoming necessary, looking at parameters such as temperature & load. The analogue signals are monitored every second by a PLC whcih takes an average over a minute. Every minute the averaged values are transmitted using low power radio telemetry to the central hub where the values are logged, ready for onward transmission. The logged values are transferred every quarter of an hour or so via GPRS to a data hosting server (Gateway). The client then jumps on the internet and gains access to the data via a secure username and password. Reports can be created and data can be exported to be used by other applications.
